Maybe it's improved since, but last time I used IDA free the cloud decompiler was buggy and weird and it was overall a mediocre experience. I don't see why anyone would choose to use it instead of Ghidra unless they were explicitly trying to learn IDA because it's the industry standard, and I don't see it holding that position long-term unless they improve their free/cheap offerings.

That has a lot more to do with personality than career. If youโ€™re an irritating know-it-all weirdo, people arenโ€™t going to like you regardless of your job. Iโ€™ve known engineers like that that, but most people I know and work with are normal people and are respected.

> Honestly, the top responses almost read like neural network generated proto-english

Thatโ€™s not specific to questions about 5G. Most of what I read on Quora would fit that description.

Not well. Theyโ€™re isolated in their own section of the app and donโ€™t seamlessly integrate with included music like they did in Play Music.

Thatโ€™s the book my mom used to teach me how to read. I donโ€™t remember much about it, but it was apparently effective, so itโ€™s nice that itโ€™s stuck around for the past ~20 years.

I left the church and have a fairly negative view of it, but claiming that there's no difference between devoting your time to a religion and a scammy company is pretty dismissive of the positive impacts being part of a religious community can have for people.

They have: https://corellium.com

Though there is an ongoing lawsuit as a result.

They baptize a living person, who acts as a proxy. If I remember correctly, there's some stipulation that the person in heaven has to actually accept the baptism, they're not just being forced into it. I don't remember the specifics of that though, I left the church a few years ago.

Having never taken a Mac apart before, it took me less than half an hour to upgrade mine, and I had zero issues. It was definitely more work than upgrading a normal computer, but I think it's definitely worth doing if you're a student or otherwise unable or unwilling to pay Apple's exorbitant RAM prices.

Local leadership quality in the church varies wildly, since there's no formal training and they're unpaid positions. My bishops growing up were all great guys, but there are absolutely exceptions, and I'm sure that happens.

Also, as other people have mentioned, /r/exmormon isn't exactly a representative sample of exmormons. It was useful to me as someone who was questioning my faith and later dealing with family as I was leaving the church, but now that I'm in a healthy place, there's no reason for me to spend time there and I haven't been on in years. That's pretty common, and the end result is that the majority of long-time active posters are people who've been out for years but are still bitter/angry/whatever and need that outlet.

I think the structure of school in general is pretty bad for mental health. I finished my CS BS degree earlier this year, and the quality of life improvement from not being in school anymore has been huge. Instead of constantly worrying about homework, not being able to predict my schedule (due to different homework assignments taking different amounts of time, etc.), and sacrificing sleep on a regular basis, I go to work for 8 hours and then then don't have to worry about it for the rest of the day. It's not a job I want to have forever, or one that I find particularly interesting, but it's still way better than being in school. I stopped taking antidepressants after relying on them to live for about six years, and I'm doing fine.

School sucks. I don't know what the solution to that is. Maybe there isn't one. But I didn't truly realize just how bad it was until I was done with it. I can only assume it's worse when you're in a graduate program, particularly in a field like philosophy where your post-graduation prospects are so low.

Growing up as a Mormon kid and seeing these DVDs around, I was always curious why it was legal, and none of the adults I asked had an answer, or even seemed to understand why it wouldn't be. It's funny to discover this article >10 years later and learn that the answer was "it's not."

While I was in college, there was a summer I couldn't find any tech work and ended up doing property claims for a tour company. It paid minimum wage, but it was pretty fun. What really surprised me was how many valuable items (camera bags full of lenses and an expensive-looking camera, CPAP machines, etc.) we would find with absolutely no identifying information whatsoever. We were able to track down some of the owners, but not all of them. If you're traveling, you should definitely have your name and contact information not just on, but inside your bags. It could come in handy someday.

I'm not sure how widespread it is (it might just be a few teams), but I've seen a few Microsoft engineers complaining about moving to open offices over the past few weeks. Ex: https://twitter.com/NerdPyle/status/1174732849699704833
