I grew up on Publix fried chicken. If you find yourself relocated to FL and invited to a House Party/BBQ/Picnic/Bible Study, bring Publix friend chicken and you'll make immediate friends.

Once upon a time I worked a contract gig at a credit union in the US. My first day in the datacenter (ground floor), I noticed the grill from a late 90s/early 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck hanging on the wall above the door frame. I pointed it out and asked "why is that on the wall?"

The building was like many bank buildings, 4-5 stories, all glass exterior, off a busy main road. In particular, this building was parallel to the busy main road.

Turns out, the busy main road was perpendicular to another road, which lined up almost perfectly with the datacenter on the first floor. One Saturday night, a drunk driver ran the stop sign on the side street, blasted through the field leading up the datacenter, and drove their truck straight into the building, right through the offices surrounding the main server room. The force of the crash blew bricks across the room in all directions and missed the raised floor by maybe 3 meters.

Surprisingly, nothing went down. The datacenter now has "bulletproof" glass on that portion of the exterior, poles installed into the ground in front of the glass, and an earth berm raised above the road.

The sysadmins found the truck grill inside one of the offices under a desk. They kept it and hung it on the wall as a reminder to plan for any sort of disaster.

We are cut from the same cloth as I do exactly the same for the exact same reasons. I've 'trained' many a new TSA agent only because I assume it doesn't happen much. I would say half the time I opt out I am used to train a new agent.

Not to point out the obvious but your example is an order placed on Cyber Monday...so the biggest online shopping day of the entire year...you might experience a slight delay that week.

I worked at a similar large aerospace contractor just in the past couple years. I can attest 100% to what you've said.

They estimated they would need to replace 40% of their workforce within the next 10 years just to stay afloat. Recently at my old site they hired 1000 people. Within a year, 800 had quit. These are software engineers, mechanical engineers, etc. I watched people just play on their phones, keep their feet up, basically do nothing at all.

One guy showed up to work on the first day and was told by his manager : "I don't have an office, so you'll have to sit here for now". The manager then flew back to another state, and the guy did not see him ever again. For a year this guy played Candy Crush on an iPad and did nothing because no one else knew who he was or who he worked for. Eventually he got a new manager and his job was then unboxing computers...for a year...When I started working with him, he would go into a large empty lab and just lay down behind some boxes and nap for 2hrs a day.

He was hired to be some sort of cost accountant.

This was not uncommon, it was rampant. I still cannot believe workplaces like that exist.

I lived in Florida my whole life and have spent a lot of time in tropical places around the world. I do not generally attract mosquitoes, much less than people around me. I have O-type blood.

In the South, we have a saying when you attract them: "You must have that sweet blood"

Worked at Walgreens during high school. I'll take waterboarding over having to hear 'Train - Drops of Jupiter' ever again.

>The Florida lifestyle is to drive from air conditioned place to air conditioned place in your car. I am exaggerating but you should try ORegon or Washington for a more active lifestyle.

On the coasts people are very active. True the median age is much higher however they usually move to the coast to enjoy being outside year round.

Oh they absolutely knew the pervy implications, they didn't think they would ever be caught:

Native and lived in Florida most of my life as well. Everything you just said was true. There was a guy in my hometown, very well known surfer who was killed by a speeding car simply while waiting to cross the street. We have ghost bikes everywhere as well.
