I was an exchange student in Germany when the wall came down. I was a computer science major, and a friend sent me a copy of the Cuckoo's Egg. That book made me feel excited about my future profession and opened my eyes to a world that I was largely unaware of. It also convinced me that grad school was something I had to experience.
